Best European Roulette Rules 2023

European Roulette is a simple game of roulette. The wheel has 37 pockets, numbered from 0 to 36. a single zero reduces the house edge (also known as the casino edge) to just 2.7%. The low casino edge is one of the reasons why European Roulette is so popular with players. Each round all bets are placed using coloured chips to distinguish each player, the dealer then stops the bet, spins the wheel and rolls the ball in the opposite direction. When the ball stops in one of the slots, the dealer announces the result, collects all the losing bets and pays out the winner’s profit.

If playing roulette at an online casino there are some additional optional rules. The Jail and Bonus Roulette rules both effectively halve the casino advantage for equal stakes.

This is a roulette rule that can only be applied to equal bets. When a zero appears, the player has two choices.
Take back half the bet and lose the other half.
Leave a bet for the next spin of the roulette wheel for an all-or-nothing gamble. If the subsequent spin is again zero, or does not match the restricted bet, the entire bet is lost. Otherwise, if the result of the subsequent spin matches the bet, the player’s money is refunded.

The Bonus Roulette rule is similar to the Jailbreak rule, except that in this case the player has no choice in the event of a zero and only loses half of the bet.

Maximum and minimum bets

European-style casinos usually publish maximum and minimum bets for roulette tables, and sometimes do so for entertainment games. Usually, for each spin of the roulette wheel, if a player’s total inside bet must exceed the minimum bet. The maximum bets listed usually only show the maximum bets allowed for a single number ‘straight’ bet. The maximum bet for other types of bets increases proportionally.
