Let’s explore the essay on Festivals! Festivals and festivities are definitely an integral part of our lives. They play a significant role in the development of unity between human beings living together. Also, they come across as a breath of fresh air from the mundane activities of our everyday life. They differ from one region to another, and sometimes they can represent a particular geographical location.

Here, we will be talking about the importance of the festival and how it affects human lives.

The Importance of Festivals

  • Festivals are always considered as being the welcome relief amidst the mundane and the ordinary. During festivities, no one has to think about daily life and can indulge in doing something different.
  • Apart from the fun part, festivals are also significant for cementing the unity between people. Every religion, caste, and creed have their own festivals, and this helps the people from that caste and creed unite with each other. Some festivals carry such a major significance that people from all over the world, irrespective of their religion and caste, participate in celebrating the festival. This is an even greater statement of unity. Christmas and Eid can be called such festivals.
  • Festival can function as the cultural symbol of a caste or creed as well. For example, Bengalis are famous worldwide for a number of things, and one of those things is definitely their biggest festival Durga Puja. The way they celebrate this festival makes everyone amazed across the globe.
  • Many festivals can prove to be an economic boost as well for a certain region. This is very much true for all those regions where commerce can flourish during festivities.

First Essay on Festivals: My Favorite Festival

From an early age, I was very closed to my grandparents, especially my grandma. She used to always tell me stories before bedtime and sometimes during holidays as well.

But not all her stories were not made up of fictitious stories; instead, some of them were from her childhood days. Her memory was very sharp even at that ripe age, and she could easily recollect many anecdotes from her younger days. But sometimes, when she used to lose track of them, my grandpa always came to her rescue. This was how I came to know about their favorite festival.

Being Bengalis, most people would automatically assume that Durga puja is bound to be our favorite festival. But that was not the case for my old folks. They had a lot of nostalgia related to Kalipuja or Diwali, as it is known across the country. But this is also the day when Bengalis usually worship the Goddess Kali.

It was during one such Diwali many years ago that these two met and realized that they love each other. While they were looking at fire-crackers bursting in the night sky, grandma saw his face in the light of the crackers. She can never forget the time when he held her hands for the first time and said those three magical words. All of it still seems like a dream for them.

So, this year I am with them; I will stand afar and look at these two while crackers will burst in the night sky. Love will be rekindled once again.

Diwali is now my favorite festival too! Let’s see another essay on festivals!

Second Essay on Festivals: The Other Side of Festival

If you have been to Kolkata during the Puja, you will witness an incomparable sight. If you are not a Bengali, it will bedazzle you all the more. Strings of people going towards every direction, hoping pandals dressed in their best and eating everything that they can get their hands on.

You will suddenly feel that everyone has become rich because they will never think twice before spending money on something. They would never even pay attention to these things on any ordinary day, but they can buy anything or consider eating anything during the puja days.

This is because, during puja, everyone wants to live a different life that they can’t during the rest of the year. Some of them start their preparation months before puja. They are willing to buy extra even if necessary; after all, this is the greatest festival for this creed.

But this is also the time you will be able to see a different side of this city. You will be able to see a lot of beggars in the streets compared to other times of the year. Apart from them, you will see a lot of street vendors selling a lot of odd things around the city.

This is just because people are ready to buy anything, and it will allow them to earn their living for a few days and eat a full meal. Because they never turn out to be so lucky during the rest of the year. If you look carefully, you will see they are mostly kids, the vendors, the beggars, all! They are also enjoying the festival; the festival allows them to live a bit better for at least a few days.

Let’s see the third essay on festivals!

Third Essay on Festivals: The Festival that Changed My Life

I never really liked the crowd. For all my life, I have tried to avoid the crowd as much as I could. This is why festivals never really made me feel excited. Instead, I wanted to avoid going out during the festivals.

The streets are always crowded during the festival, and that is why I always felt like going to a secluded place. But little did I know that this festival would change my life forever.

During Puja, everyone felt like hopping pandals, dressed in their best, but I was perhaps the only exception. So, during one such puja, I was just minding my business in a secluded place. I was outside because the rest of my family dragged me out. They are out in the pandal, and I was just under the tree looking at the crowd flowing in every direction.

Then suddenly, I felt someone is pulling the end of my kurta. It was a little girl; judging by her appearance, I could understand she was from the colony near my house. I didn’t say anything, so she asked me to come along. When I asked where I am being taken, she said, “I want to visit the pandal and have some Prasad, but the uncle near the gate won’t let me go near the idol. So, can you please come with me? If you are there, then they will surely let me enter the pandal.”

I was struck by her words. I was moved to such an extent that I couldn’t say anything; I just held her fingers and moved along.

Inside, I wanted to beat the gatekeeper because he didn’t allow this girl to enter because of her attire and the place where she lives. The festival belongs to everyone, and everyone has the right to participate irrespective of their background.

I gave a look to the man near the gate, and he immediately understood that he is in trouble. The moment she has the Prasad in her hands, her face immediately changed, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.

That evening I took her out again, bought her a new dress and all the things she wanted to eat.

I always felt lonely in a crowded place because I thought I don’t belong anywhere. But now, when I was walking with this girl, I was not feeling lonely anymore!

Fourth Essay on Festivals: Festival, What a Happy Coincidence

Every day my morning used to start with gunfire and bullets. But today, when I woke up, I could hear the laughter of children and a faint Hindi song coming from far.

When I used to walk out of the tent, all I could see was my fellow comrades injured or still recovering from last night’s battle. But the trauma used always to be there.

Today when I stepped outside my house, I could see little children running everywhere; they were looking very happy. No one is dead, no one is injured, and my own broken leg was not feeling broken anymore.

After getting severely injured in the trench, I spent a great deal of time in the military hospital. When I was released, I was told to go home for a few days, and I am here, on the day of Eid al-Fitr!

What a happy coincidence!

What a happy moment!

I always wanted to fulfill my duty to my motherland, but I was looking for some time to spend with my family. And this is exactly what I felt today!

Relief from my otherwise uncertain everyday life!
